Ingredients

1 loaf (challah or brioche) bread, cut into 1-inch cubes

8 oz cream cheese, softened and cut into small pieces

2 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen, thawed)

6 large eggs

2 cups whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/2 cup maple syrup

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

Preparation of Bread: Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Arrange the cubed bread evenly in the dish.

Cream Cheese Alternating: Evenly scatter the softened cream cheese pieces and blueberries over the bread cubes. Gently press them down into the bread.

Mixing the Custard: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, maple syrup, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Combining Ingredients: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, pressing down gently to ensure all the bread absorbs the custard. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight.

Baking the Casserole: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the casserole from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature while the oven preheats.

Final Bake: Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is set in the center. Check for doneness by inserting a knife; it should come out clean.

Serving: Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Dust with powdered sugar if desired and serve with additional maple syrup.
