Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons instant yeast

1 teaspoon salt

2 tablespoons sugar

1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F)

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 teaspoons garlic powder (optional)

2 teaspoons dried herbs (such as oregano or basil, optional)

Cornmeal (for dusting)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and instant yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it starts to foam.

Add the olive oil, salt, garlic powder, and dried herbs to the yeast mixture. Mix well.

Gradually add the all-purpose flour, one cup at a time, mixing with a wooden spoon until a dough begins to form.

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal pieces.

Shape each piece into a small ball and then gently flatten each ball into a clover shape, pinching the edges to create three petals and a small base.

Place the clover-shaped dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, dusted with cornmeal to prevent sticking.

Cover the dough with a damp cloth again and let it rise for 30 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

After rising, score the top of each clover-shaped bread bowl lightly with a sharp knife to allow steam to escape.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack before using them as bowls for soups or dips.
