The origins of egg rolls can be traced back to Chinese cuisine, where they have been a popular appetizer for decades. Traditionally, egg rolls are made of a crispy wrapper filled with a mixture of meat, vegetables, and spices, then deep-fried to perfection. While delicious, these classic treats can be high in calories and fat, especially when fried.

Ingredients

1 pound ground chicken

2 cups coleslaw mix (cabbage, carrots)

1/2 cup green onions, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon ginger, grated

3 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)

1 tablespoon sesame oil

2 teaspoons rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sriracha (optional, for spice)

Salt and pepper to taste

Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

Cook the Chicken: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add ground chicken. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat if needed.

Add Aromatics: Stir in minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Combine Ingredients: Add the coleslaw mix to the skillet, stirring well to combine. Cook for another 3-4 minutes, allowing the veggies to soften slightly.

Season the Dish: Pour in the soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and optional sriracha. Mix thoroughly, ensuring the chicken and veggies are evenly coated in the sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Finish Up: Remove from heat and stir in chopped green onions.

Serve: Spoon the mixture into bowls and garnish with sesame seeds before serving.
