Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F (43°C)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

For the Filling:

2 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1-2 tablespoons milk (to reach desired consistency)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Mix Ingredients: Add melted butter, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually incorporate the flour, starting with 3 cups, mixing until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add remaining flour, a little at a time.

First Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling: In a medium bowl, toss the diced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.

Roll the Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 16x24 inches on a floured surface.

Add Filling: Spread softened butter over the rolled-out dough, then evenly distribute the apple mixture on top.

Form Rolls: Starting from one edge of the dough, carefully roll it into a tight log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces.

Second Rise: Place the rolls cut side up in a greased baking dish. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Preheat Oven: Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the Rolls: Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly.

Make the Frosting: In a medium bowl, beat together softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until creamy. Add milk as needed for desired consistency.

Frost and Serve: Drizzle the cream cheese frosting over the warm rolls. Serve warm and enjoy the gooey, cinnamon-infused goodness!
