Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp ground nutmeg

1 large egg

1/2 cup whole milk

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tsp vanilla extract

Oil for frying

Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tbsp milk

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Prep the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.

Form the Dough: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a soft dough forms. Turn out onto a floured surface and gently knead until smooth, about 1-2 minutes.

Roll and Cut: Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick. Use a donut cutter (or two round cutters of different sizes) to cut out donuts.

Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or fryer, heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully drop the donuts in, frying in batches until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove and let drain on paper towels.

Make the Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the consistency by adding more milk if necessary.

Glaze the Donuts: Once the donuts are cool enough to handle, dip the tops into the glaze, allowing the excess to drip off. Place them back on a cooling rack to set.

Serve & Enjoy: Enjoy these delicious melt-in-your-mouth donuts warm or at room temperature!
