Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup sugar

2 teaspoons instant yeast

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk, warm

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1/4 cup finely chopped nuts (e.g., walnuts or pecans) (optional)

1 egg, for egg wash

Icing sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Mix well.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough begins to form.

Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

While the dough is rising, prepare the filling by mixing brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and chopped nuts in a small bowl.

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into four equal pieces.

Roll each piece into a circle of about 12 inches in diameter on a floured surface.

Place the first circle on a lined baking tray. Evenly spread 1/3 of the filling on top. Repeat the process with the second and third circles, layering them with filling in between. Top with the fourth circle.

Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 16 equal wedges, but do not cut through the center.

Grab two adjacent wedges and twist them away from each other, then pinch the ends together to form points. Repeat with the remaining wedges until all are twisted.

Allow the bread to rise again for about 30 minutes. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Brush the top of the star bread with beaten egg for a golden finish.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.

Let it cool for a few minutes before dusting with icing sugar (if desired) and serving.
